The hotels observatory
Located amidst palm trees and granite rocks, situated 4° South
of the Equator the Observatory was founded in cooperation with the Laupheim
observatory on the rooftop of Coral Strand Hotel.
Your way to the stars
The high tech telescope offers an awesome view on the planets and
stars of the northern and southern hemisphere. The Equator is an optimal
spot to obtain a different view on the issues: or did you ever before see
a moon sickle lying on the back. revolved constellations or even completely
alien stars like Octans, Vela or Puppies? Quite an unusual sight to European
and American eyes...
Even if you are not familiar with astronomy at all, it is a real
special event to take a peak into the sparkling, starry firmament. There’s
hardly a place from where you can discern the milky way as clearly and bright
as from the Seychelles where the air is still clear and clean, no air pollution,
no smog to spoil your view.
Under professional supervision Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, Mars, Orion Nebula
and - with a little luck in a summer night- the Southern Cross are waiting
to be discovered by you.
With the help of charts, graphics and photos our astronomer will
patiently introduce you into the mysteries of astronomy.
Slide shows on astronomical issues are regularly held in the hotel. Most
of the pictures have been taken from the famous Hubble Telescope and are
of excellent quality. “The birth of Stars” is one of the issues,
covered by the lectures. A list of further topics will be sent upon request.
Diving in Paradise
You are already an experienced diver and you want to go out and
play? Righteously so, there are so many things to discover out into the
deep blue sea.
The diving center offers excursions to more than 40 diving spots just around
the island of Mahe. With a little luck you’ll be entitled to discover
groupers, potato brasses, snappers, basses, black-spotted stingrays, yellow
puffers and many other creatures. All different types of crabs – like
the robber crab in the picture- and fishes live a peaceful life together
sheltered by their hosts, the corals.
And it is truly a magic moment in your life when suddenly you swim under
the silhouette of an enormous yet friendly whale shark. Don’t worry
if they don’t get teased, they are absolutely harmless. Try to be
a little more cautious when meeting a lionfish, he may not really want to
be cuddled...yet, spying on him, as he is floating almost weightless and
majestic is a breathtaking view. After an eventful day you will not be able
to wait to return to the scenic, miraculous underwater world of Seychelles.
