HISTORY
Since 1660, the island changed hands 14 times between
French and English. The island acquired its independence on February 22nd,
1979. The crown of England remains officially a head of state and it is
represented by a governor general who named 11 senators of Ste-Lucia.
The legislative assembly is elected by popular vote. Ste-Lucie gave birth
to two prize-winners of Nobel prize: Sir W. Arthur Lewis received the
prize of Economy in 1979 and the poet Derek Walcott theprize Literature
in 1992.

There are two airports on the island. The airport Georges-Charles,
in the capital of Castries and, extremely south of the island, to Old
